Hindus Oppose Sikhs in USA

Just few weeks ago, government officials of Fresno, California retracted their proposal to recognize the Sikh genocide (November 1984) due to pressure by the Indian officials. It not only exposes the anti-Sikh agenda of the Indian Hindus but also shows how far the Indians are willing to go to suppress the Sikh voice.

The Sikh nation has achieved success in convincing many cities in the United States that the events of November 1984 were neither riots nor outburst of the Hindu community against the Sikhs but rather a systematic and well planned genocide by the Indian State in which the Hindu leaders, officials, and civilians played an active role. Fresno was next in line to recognize the Sikh genocide. We must emphasize the fact that the proposal was neither supportive of the Sikh sovereignty nor anti-Hindu in any way. Its intent was to simply get Sikh genocide recognized and acknowledged by the government. This, however, irritated the Indian officials to the core who blabbered their illogical and irrational reasoning just to suppress the Sikh voice.

Sudarshan Kapoor claimed that “1984 wasn’t like the Armenian genocide or the Holocaust and said the city shouldn’t get involved”.

Why shouldn’t the city get involved when Sikh voice is suppressed in India and to this day, Sikhs have not obtained any justice? There have been no witnesses from the Hindu community, no Hindu came forward to help, and no Hindu ever condemned the government for the Sikh killings. Media, officials, and civilians all turned a blind eye to the Sikh genocide as if the Sikhs had deserved it. Of course, the Sikh genocide was not like the holocaust of WW2. The Germans, Austrians, French and other civilians did not actively participate in killing the Jews and gypsies. The holocaust was largely carried by the government officials alone. However, in November 1984, the Sikh genocide was largely carried out by the Hindu civilians who were supported, funded and lead by the government officials. The police aided in disarming the Sikhs and ensuring that no reporter witnessed the killings. The police also helped the Hindu killers in pointing the Sikh homes and stood by as Sikhs were killed openly. Hindu doctors refused to treat the wounded Sikhs in hospitals. Other Hindus became mute and refused to offer help to Sikhs who had become homeless. No Hindu newspaper or news channel reported the facts and instead termed the genocide as “riots”. Even afterwards, Sikh men and women were mocked and insulted at their jobs by the Hindus who considered it a great victory for “teaching Sikhs a lesson” and “showing them their place in Indian society”. This is why we say the Sikh genocide was not like the holocaust but much worse.

Another Hindu bigot Rama Kant Dawar, wrote against the proposal stating that it could potentially lead to issues between communities in Fresno.

This is the most ridiculous and ignorant statement one can ever make. This statement is no different than the one made by Indians in India (potential issue to Sikh-Hindu unity) whenever Sikh demands are suppressed. When other cities around the country recognized the Sikh genocide there arose no issues between the communities. Further, Sikhs have been fighting an uneven battle against heavy odds. Sikhs face opposition not just by the Indian government but by the Hindu majority as well. Also, not a single Hindu has ever supported the Sikh nation in any issues in foreign countries. Sikhs have been facing issues such as hate crime killing, attacks on gurdwaras, and racial profiling but no Hindu group has ever come forward to offer help. So when the unity does not exist, what issue could it face? When Hindus are already insensible to Sikh problems, the concern of Sikh-Hindu division is baseless. Besides, Sikhs have never benefited from Hindu friendship and never will. History is testament to the fact that collaboration with Hindus brings nothing but destruction and loss to the Sikhs. Hindus seem to be frantic at the fact that their anti-Sikh crimes and human rights violations are being exposed by Sikhs in other countries and they wish to suppress the Sikh voice at all cost in India and abroad.

This episode make it clear that Hindus still turn a blind eye to the Sikh genocide and justify it with various reasons. They do not realize the grave damage this did to the Sikh nation. Thus, punishing the criminals or making things right is out of the question. Sikhs do not need any justice, reparation or an apology from the Indians. A separate independent Sikh State is the only solution and when that happens, Sikhs will obtain justice and punish the criminals themselves.
