Channa Dyalgharia
Channa was a member of one the criminal groups of
S.S.P. Gobind Ram. He was a resident of village Dyalghar near Majitha. He became
favorite Cat of Gobind Ram when he betrayed and killed Bhai Bhupinder Singh
Bhinda of Bhindranwala Tiger Force (BTF).
Bhai Bhupinder Singh Ji was looked upon as a
protector by Sikhs and Hindus alike. Bhai Bhupinder Singh had been newly
appointed as leader of BTF. Using his intuitive knowledge and leadership skills
he won the support of his entire area. The Indian government became worried
seeing the success of Bhai Bhupinder Singh and started making plans to kill him.
The government tried to kill him by sending hundreds of its security forces but
Bhai Sahib was a brave warrior and always managed to escape. At last, Gobind Ram
chose Channa to become close to Bhai Sahib and kill him.
By making
strong pro-movement statements and with his sweet talks, Channa managed to win
the trust of Bhai Bhupinder Singh and then started planning to kill him. One
day, in the year of 1989, Bhai Bhupinder Singh had to go to a village Sudhar
near Beas to resolve the dispute of a school. Channa found out about this and
informed the police. The police surrounded all the area and established many
check points. When Bhai Sahib and his friend Bhai Kashmir Singh left on a
scooter, Channa and his friends started following them on a motorcycle. Bhai
Bhupinder Singh had no suspicion about Channa and Channa had no fear of Bhai
Sahib since he had become a trustworthy person. Just when Bhai Sahib reached
village Sudhar and parked their scooter, Channa and his companions opened fire
on the Sikh fighters and killed them outside of the school.
The dead
bodies of the true martyrs lay on the road. Channa and his companions started
looking for a trolley to load the dead bodies on and take them to Gobind Ram. No
one in the village helped them. By this time many villagers started to gather
around the bodies. At this point Channa became scared and took a three wheeler
at gun point. When the villagers began to protest, Channa fired on them and
quickly drove the three-wheeler out of there. They took the bodies to Gobind Ram
in Hargobindpur. Seeing the dead body of Bhai Bhupinder Singh, Gobind Ram became
very happy and issued permits to Channa and his companions, giving them full
rights to loot and rape the public. The entire village of Bhai Sahib mourned his
death and did not eat and drink for many days.
Channa and his companions had now started to go
from house and house and robbing them. After robbing every house they would
dishonor the women of the household. At last the time of their death had come.
In 1989, some Sikh fighters spotted Channa wondering at a fair. Seeing the
fighters Channa quickly left the place and hid in the fields. The Sikh fighters
followed him and captured him in the fields. Channa begged for his life but true
Sikh fighters knew all about his misdeeds. They pointed their rifles towards him
and shot him dead. It is not known whom Gobind Ram appointed as the next leader
of Channa’s group but there had always existed abundance of traitors.
